Makweti is located in the 37,000 hectare Welgevonden Private Reserve in the Waterberg area of the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

This vast rugged and captivating area with diverse wildlife and unique natural splendor is privately owned. The reserve charter allows a limited number of guests to experience the reserve at one time offering an exclusive safari experience.

The Waterberg region of the Limpopo province is bordered by the Limpopo River and the Botswana border in the west and the Magalakwena River in the east. The scenery ranges from broad rolling hills to magnificent red sandstone cliffs, perennial rivers, open plains and savannas add variety to the picture.

Today the area is an important ecotourism, adventure and conservation destination. The Marakele National Park with is rare cycads, tree ferns and yellow wood trees shares a border with the Welgevonden Private Reserve.

The nearby Nylsvlei Wetlands are home to the largest number of water birds in South Africa with more than 400 species having been observed.
